    Need help with Home Pages for 30DayBlogCHallenge theme.

    I’m using the 30 day blog challenge theme. I can’t figure out how/where they made the Home page. The main url (https://livecheapdreambig.com) shows the header image I put into the theme customization and lists all my posts. I cannot find this “page” anywhere so I can’t edit or add to it. It doesn’t show up in the Pages section on the WordPress dashboard. I see in the customize area that the Home page settings are to show my posts, not a static page. It says I need to create two pages but doesn’t explain how they work.

    I created a Home page – it has a different url (https://livecheapdreambig.com/home), I used the same header image but content is what I added. In the Menu editing area, an item called Home already existed as a “custom URL”. I removed that item and added the Home page I created to the menu. But the main URL still goes to the original page with the posts listed – all I changed was what shows on the menu.

    Should I change the URL for my created Home page to a custom url of https://livecheapdreambig.com? Or is there a way to edit the original Home page so I can add elements and change how they are displayed? I don’t understand how this original page works.

    THanks!

    Hi Bonnie,

    Bare with me a little bit, I am making sure I understand your question 🙂

    I’m curious if you go to your WordPress Dashboard > Appearance > Menus > Do you have a Main Menu with Home on it that says “Custom Link” (on the right hand side of the Home rectangle)?

    If so, click the arrow, it should open up a bigger square with a URL and a Navigation Label. You can see what the URL says and change it to your sites name (it’ll be the landing page).

    Your Home page will not be under the pages section. The posts you make typically goes to your Home page. I see you have a tab for Blogs. So perhaps you have this set up for your posts to go under your blog tab. What is the first thing you would like your readers to see first?If you want your readers to go straight to your Home page you can change the Custom URL to your websites URL.

    What would you like to do with your Home page?

    Navigate to settings->reading from your WordPress dashboard.

    Choose your homepage display -> a static page.

    Choose the following pages,
    Homepage -> https://livecheapdreambig.com/home
    Blog -> https://livecheapdreambig.com/blog

    Hope that works as you wish.

    That helps. I didn’t want to wreck anything, but I think I can get what I want now.

    I want the Home page to be specific information and the Blog page to list all the post titles, image and snippet of text. I’ll work on it again and be back if (when!) I have more questions.

    Thanks!
