I had a glass of wine, got a little crazy and posted my blog on Facebook … and now I have a first person on my email list!

How brave Lisa! Even though it is scary at first, we first find our biggest fans within our circle of friends and acquaintances. This can even bring new relationships into your life and people who you thought didn’t have anything in common with you, might surprise you 🙂

I think that on the day I get my first user, I’m going to take myself out for breakfast. With COVID, it’ll be a special treat because in the last several months believe it or not I’ve only gone out to eat “at” the restaurant one time.

Nice!!! I love wine. I should do the same. lol. I am working today on overcoming my fear of sharing with the general public and people in my life what I am writing on my blog because some of it is contradictory to their beliefs as my writing is a result of my changed life due to self development. Topics like, “why money is not the root of all evil”, might raffle some feathers in my community, but that article came from my heart as it talks about undoing limiting beliefs around money and gaining financial freedom. A glass of wine and a simple click of the share button sounds like something I can easily do. Thank you Lisa (my namesake), for sharing this.

I have thought over some people who might be interested in my blog, and it shows me better who my target audience may be. I have collected emails for these people.

I also feel that my target audience is definitely people of the younger generations and those who have children that will have to grow up in the world that we leave behind. No specific gender or occupation really.

I want to reach out to people who care about the environment and want to make changes but don’t know how or have the motivation, but I also want to reach out to those who don’t have a clue what is happening and might would want to make a change if they did. I want to reach out to those who aren’t already as inspired as one would hope for.

Hi Kaitlin! It definitely is so hard to find our audience, especially when it is such a broad subject! Why not start like Lisa and share your blog with your Facebook friends or with your Instagram followers? People might me pleasantly surprised to see your courage in approaching this subject! Just keep on creating content and things will flow naturally. You are doing great!

I’ve already used Constant Contact to copy and paste some of the information into my Facebook page. I’m reluctant to send the information via e-mail because I’m not sure who has an interest in blogging and/or Pinterest. Like the movie says, “Build it and they will come.”

I was able to get more specific on who my ideal reader is. It will help a lot with my come from when it comes to my writing. At first I felt I needed to convince my readers as to why they should be there, but after this exercise I realized, my demographic is pretty open minded because they’ve all been through hard things and just want help getting by.

Trina, there is nothing more appealing to the public than authenticity! If you are being yourself and writing about your own experience through your own eyes, that’s all everyone needs. A fresh set of eyes and a new perspective really change how we look at situations. You are doing a great job, well done 🙂

I don’t know anyone who would be interested as I’m an odd ball out but I just write about things that I either would like to know more about or stuff I would have liked to know when I started my journey to zero waste and I have some subscribers so I’m doing something right!

It seems like even finding 50 people with contacts and names might take a while for me. But as I was listing out the names of friends and co-workers, I also started to get a better idea of what kind of people I really enjoyed talking about Japanese culture with. Hopefully, I can keep adding people like them to the list as I go forward.

I seem to get better traffic if I share my blog posts on Facebook but I also received a suggestion to do it on LinkedIn for Japanese business content. A bit intimidating but its something worth trying!

Or just do it! It’s like ripping a bandaid off. It seems such a huge deal but it really isn’t. You will be surprised by people’s reactions 🙂

I like to build meaningful relationships with people in person so thinking of 50 people who might take interest in my blog was pretty easy. I just don’t have a lot of their emails as I don’t usually communicate that way. I may have to resort to messenger which is fine.

Hi Cheryl 🙂 I totally get where you are coming from! I’m sure there are a lot of groups on Facebook about weight loss, healthy living, wellness, wellbeing. Why not start there? You can help so many people who are struggling with the same issues and feel unseen or unheard in their own families and groups of friends. Think about where you would go for useful information or inspiration stories and go there and post it! Good luck 🙂

I feel like I won’t have a problem creating my 50 list. I have quite a few friends in this realm, plus tons of Facebook friends from different mom groups I am in, that I can reach out to. They may not all be interested, but it is at least a starting point to see who may be interested.

For me, my ideal reader is female, 21-40 years old who is a SAHM/WAHM or career mom. Someone who has dreams/goals of doing what they love, finding that balance between career and motherhood so they can work hard, play harder. They are struggling with or looking for advice on the dreaded MOM GUILT, looking to learn to balance work and motherhood, struggling to start a business or working 9 to 5. And maybe, they are even moms who are working through this process already or have succeeded in finding balance and want to just be there to help further process or encourage other women.

I’ve come up with 84 names of people in my contacts who might be interested (or know someone who is interested) in my website. I only have email addresses for 43 of them, so it’s time for some detective work. I have 3 groups who fit into my ideal readership: junior high/high school students, their parents, and their teachers. I’m hoping to reach as many as possible and help the students gain determination and confidence as they improve their study habits, work ethic, and test scores.

As I went through my list of contacts, I was surprised to realize that I am actually looking forward to reaching out to these people. I expected to feel like I was begging or asking for a favor, but I’m actually quite excited to share my website. I know some of them won’t be interested, but maybe they will know someone who is. I really hope I can find ways to help kids with this. It’s a little scary to put myself out there, but I think it will be worth it!

I have created my email list. I have the email addresses for half of them. I too am not comfortable reaching out to family and friends. My facebook page is private only. I do not want local people knowing my business. How do you suggest I get over or around that?

I want to reach out to young moms and dads who are trying to find a way to make ends meat while giving their family their daily neccessities. I want to reach out to those energetic grandparents who want to make the best memories for their grandchildren by spending quality time with them. I want to reach out to those people who are trying to cut out the rif raf of their daily lives and focus on what is important at this moment in their lives.

Well, things are going pretty good and I am excited! I have 3 new subscribers, several views on LinkedIn, and some encouraging feedback on Facebook. I haven’t gotten Instagram figured out yet but I will. I have compiled a list of 60 or so emails for my friends and families list and will get them uploaded into Constant Contact shortly. My next goal is to create a newsletter email template that aligns with my theme and goals. I have not decided yet how often I will send it. It just depends on how often I decide to post. Time will tell. I have a lot of ideas stirring inside and look forward to writing my next post. Ideally I can get ahead of things a bit and have them ready to go when the time comes.

As far as the assignment today to identify my ideal reader, I know that will evolve over time as I grow but for now this is what I have:

My ideal reader has a burning desire to explore new perspectives in the pursuit of personal growth. My ideal reader is female, likes to learn, and is most typically in their 30’s and up. Theses women are caretakers in nature and may have a lot of people who rely on them. They may not have time to do everything they want but are always aware of opportunities to help their community and usually do in one way or another when they can. I imagine that they are often taken advantage of or disregarded by others and have some degree of struggle with feeling empowered and capable.

I imagine that my audience is trying to do what they believe is their small part in this world. I think that they are trying to achieve balance in their life between being successful at home, at work, and within themselves. Most importantly, I do believe that my audience does have goals but may struggle to clearly identify and reach them.

I believe that my audience struggles to practice self-care on some level. My hope is that they value the fresh perspective that I bring to them through my stories and can relate. I want to give them the strength and ability to be fully self-aware through sharing self-reflection tools designed to help them discover the deepest parts of who they are and what they desire. I also want to help them discover techniques they can use to achieve what they desire regardless of their goals. I want to give them a safe place to share and for them to know that I care.

This exercise to identify my ideal reader has been very good for me. I needed the help to get more clarity and focus. Thank you!

This is great progress, Cynthia! Well done on sharing your blog 🙂 Try not to overwhelm yourself at first, just stipulate a fixed newsletter (weekly, fortnightly, monthly) so you can time block and get that done on the same day of the week or of the month. We always have so many ideas in the beginning and want to make them all but it is hard work!

I’m also so glad you found your ideal reader. The more specific it is, the better so you are doing a fantastic job!

Having been in my industry for many years now, I get questions from all age groups, ethnicities. My primary groups will be from age 30-50, 50+. 80%-90% will be women, but the industry is touching more and more men now. I will need to write posts that will not just target females.

My audiences are looking for honest, educated, knowledgeable information from me. Advice and solutions to issues that they may be dealing with.

I will need to share my personal journey with them also so that they will know that what I am saying is coming from knowledge and experience.

Mainly because I can’t yet reveal my identity as I still hold a full time job and nobody except my children knows I am blogging.

So I have no choice but to add contacts of all those people whose address is somehow in my inbox.

I pray I will not disappoint them when they arrive here:

When I first saw that we should write down 50 possible readers of my blog with e-mail addresses, I thought I would not find fifty people in a month. Part of the problem is that I live in Germany and hardly any of my friends here can read English well enough to get a kick out of my column, but there are a few. Then I sat down with pencil and paper, and lo and behold, I had fifty people off the top of my head in just ten minutes. And I can still think of more. I may have nearly 70 people by the end of the evening. Wow! I didn’t even know I knew so many people.

I tried to make a list, and got 8 names on it so far…

However, I managed to share my blog on my facebook (and my husband did it too), and I have now 6 subscribers to my blog. I already shared a free pattern with them, also to check that mailing working.

Had a few feedback, mainly positive. One was asking where my biography was. Not ready, but I managed to update the blog with it.

I feel stressed and happy at the same time.

I have what I consider to be a very small circle of influence, and honestly, I don’t trust people enough to let them in. I have only about 30 “friends” on Facebook, though I don’t think half of them use it much. I work for a church that has over 2500 families, and I’d say I have a spiritual family of maybe 50 people I would consider “ideal readers” for my blog. I have business-related access to their emails, but I don’t feel comfortable using those addresses for my personal use. I’m not sure how to get their permission to do that.

On another note, I finally started the other course “WordPress for Beginners” and finally learned how to upload images to my blog! How exciting! I have a question about that–Are all Google “images” free for use in my blog? How can I be sure I am not infringing on copyrights?

Hi Binky! I totally understand that you don’t want to share such a personal blog with people from your circle. Why not share it with people that you don’t know and that need an extra light in their lives? There are all sorts of Facebook groups, just search for some that are related to your niche and share it with them 🙂

According to Google Images, whenever you type something and search it, a menu appears just underneath the search bar that says Settings and Tools. Click on the “Tools” and another menu will pop up. Select “Usage Rights” and choose the “Labeled for reuse with modification” option. The images that appear are totally safe to use without the risk of copywriting 🙂

I started my list and have 33 names on it so far. I’m thinking of making a holding page for my blog to get some people to sign up before I start sharing my blog so that I can get the design and style down that I want.

I’ll keep writing names down and then hopefully I’ll be brave enough to send out the link to the blog (once I get it transfered and everything sorted so it’s not a temp holding…)…

    EEKS!! So nerve-wracking!

I actually haven’t put it out into the world yet because I don’t feel it’s quite ready yet, just a few more tweaks are needed but, I feel confident for the first time in years.

Came up with only 30 names, and I was stretching it beyond my ideal reader to just people I know that might read my blog if only to support me and may or may not get value from an occasional post. Don’t have emails for everyone yet but I think I might try reaching out to people through facebook instead of email.

Facebook is definitely easier than emailing 30 different contacts with personalized messages. What is really important is that you somehow promote your blog 🙂

I, like a few others, am necessarily anonymous. But I’m thinking of reaching out to other similar bloggers and inviting them to visit my site and share their blog sites in my comments, etc. Also I’m going to use social media.

    Cheers to you all!

But after 10 I began forgetting all the people I’ve come into contact with – I blame quarantine haha. I am proud to have 37 people on my list right now and 4 subscribers!

I think I did ok with my progress today. I have a pretty good idea of who my ideal reader is.

I do not have a long list of people who fit the description yet. I do not have a long list of people in my contacts at all! I’m kind of an introvert, so I don’t know a lot of people and don’t belong to a lot of organizations where I would get to know more. I think I will have to rely on my ideal readers to spread the word to their friends!

I wanted to have another post ready for today, but it needs more editing first.

I have a good idea of who I would like my audience to be: anyone interested or curious about foster care, foster and/ or adoptive parents, parents, social workers, and the lawyers who represent our children.

I don’t have a long list of emails, except for everyone that works at my local DHR. But, when I am ready to share my blog, I will use Facebook and other social media to start getting the word out.

Who is my ideal reader? Moms who want peace of mind that the basics are covered. Moms who want to take care of their basic needs in an easy way so they can be freed up to thrive in other areas of life.

What are their dreams or goals? My ideal reader wants to have order and organization in their home. They dream of more time with family and time to be creative. I want to help create more foundational peace of mind and easy organization to get the basics out of the way to enable more enjoyment of life.

What are they struggling with or looking for advice about? In the short term, they are wanting to make sure all their bases are covered for crisis situations. In the long term, and farther out in my writing goals, they want some organization of things like wills, lists of assets and liabililities. Maybe struggling with organization and would like checklists and worksheets provided to keep the important things of life ordered, bringing peace of mind and freeing up mental space.

I started my email list, it may take me a bit to get 50. I like the idea of posting on Facebook and instagram. I may give that a try.

I am targeting people who want more out of life, than just the normal 9 to 5. Over the years I have met so many people that are out of balance, just grinding away and not happy. I really want to help people find their joy.and take care of themselves in the process.

I understand it can be a bit intimidating to share your blog with people you know at first. Sometimes there are people who wont be a good fit or that don’t necessarily identify with your content and that is ok! Which is why I always recommend sharing it with specific Facebook groups that are connected to your niche. It makes your selection process so much easier and, that way, you know you are attracting people who really care about your content 🙂

To date I have several blogs done and a few on deck to be posted. I have slightly promoted my blog with some friends and family and am slowly inviting a few people to my facebook page so they can see some of the blogs I am posting. I have working with constant contact about getting emails set up for automatic messaging and to help with social media contact At this point I am just trying to get enough blogs open on my page to invite more people with enough content for them to make a strong connection with my page and join / subscribe.

I started out with an idea of who my readers would be. This came from a much younger me, when I was just starting a career and a family. I think back about how I learned many things by trial and error. Now maybe I can help a few that are still in that stage to move forward a lot quicker than I did, without sacrificing healthy for quick.

    Identifying my Ideal Reader:-

I am having a bit of a hard time thinking of someone in my own personal life who would be interested in the topics on my blog, because in my life, I am the odd ball that enjoys self development work, which is what I mainly write about. I know that there are many people out there who are interested in self development though and with time I will find my niche. The trick is to keep writing. I also believe that if I share my content with people in my life anyway, I might discover that some of them enjoy my work. I am getting over my fears and sharing my work with everyone I know.Thank you for the lesson today.

    Lisa.

Maybe your ideal reader isn’t someone you know in person, Lisa. Maybe it is someone from a Facebook group that you also are a member of, maybe it is someone from your work or someone from high school that suddenly posts a lot of self-development stuff on Facebook 😀 don’t limit yourself, there are 8 billions of us after all! 🙂

My ideal reader is someone like me from about 2 years ago all the way up to now, in terms of spirituality and growth. The hardest part, for me, about growing as a person is being limited by my point of view. I am aware when I am not seeing a bigger picture, but I am not sure in which direction to travel to get a better view, if that makes sense. So, I want to provide resources to help people get more perspective.
As for a list of 50 people… hah! I am a huge introvert. I don’t think I even know 50 people without listing people I haven’t spoken to since high school. And I definitely don’t know 50 people who are for sure interested in this topic. But I’ve got 11 on my list right now and that’s better than nothing!

My focus right now is not on the blog end (as of right now, only one person that I know of has even visited my blog). It’s on the Pinterest followers end. My number of followers is growing by at least one or two per day. I’m writing my blogs and I’m going to be posting my blogs on Pinterest through the device called a pin. Today, I wrote the following post: “Making a page to display your Pinterest Boards”. I have already been sending out e-mails, updating Facebook and sooner or later, If you build it, they will come. I have been giving some thought to that in order to grow my followers on my Pinterest page and start drawing attention to my blog that I would offer up my services for free to develop a pin for you. If your interested, please drop me an e-mail to pinterestartwork@pinterestartwork.com and give me a rough idea as to what you might have in mind for me to develop you a template that you can use for your blogs. Hurry now, because this offer might self destruct in 5 seconds :).

“Here’s a Pinterest board that has been created for all bloggers to share their pins of any niche as long as it is PG! (I’m not sure exactly what PG means, I’ll find out).

Please REPIN 1 for every 1 of your pins! Unlimited daily pinning as long as the pins are not identical! Vertical Pins only please! If you want to collaborate, please follow this board, follow me, and email vanessa@loveandvice.com or send her a pm! (I don’t know what a pm is, sorry) thanks!”

And even though I use to have a goal of 1 blog post per week, I think I need to up the anty to 2 or 3 per week. My first lead magnet is going to be a UX Design Developer Checklist!

I also have one interview slated! I just need to prep the questions and send them over.

I am still trying to make a list of what future posts I would like to do. I think this will help me get inspired when I am ready to write, at least I hope so. Hi everyone!!

I think I am struggling a bit with having my blog page fully functional or even more attractive. I think my writing sounds a bit to mechanic and technical. I thought on creating this blog to sell some resources for parents of dyslexic students who cannot afford dyslexia therapy services that range from $50 to $60 an hour plus materials and assessments. My blog is http://www.TodoSobreDislexia.com and don’t expect anyone to read it since it is in Spanish. I have reviewed all the technical steps on creating the blog and posting and modifying but really don’t know how to make my blog more attractive. Also, if somebody is interested in partering up with me I would be eternally grateful since I need desperate input. My learning process has been great, only that maybe there are some details I haven’t covered yet.HELP!!!

    Have a good week everyone,

    Luis

    Hi,

My progress this week is that I’ve fallen behind a few days, I find it hard like some to sit and just write, sometimes I can just write too much to the point where it becomes an essay. But showing up as much as possible I’ve actually learnt something that I didn’t know before. The fact that I’m partaking in this challenge shows I’m already growing.

    Thanks!

    This is my first post:

K.R.S.O.N.E., that is the name of a famous rapper from the early 80’s. When I found out what the letters stood for I realized exactly what I had to do to excel in school (high school at this point). I am realizing now I had forgotten that name and allowed myself to become “employee” minded”. For that reason, I had been struggling for years wondering why I could not get ahead in life financially, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. Well, fast forward over 30 years later and I now remember <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”> “Knowledge <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>Reigns <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>Supreme <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>Over <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>Nearly <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>Everyone”. I realize now in order to excel in the business of becoming an entrepreneur I must feed my mind; learn the skills and get the training I need.

my blog is harrysinspiration.com, if I wanted to add pages of top 10 ideas from an author( like Tony Robbins or someone that is deceased) do I need to get permission from that person? I see many youtube videos like that and wanted to add pages to my blog. Or do I just have to mention them. Thanks.

Hello friends, I have developed little confidence about myself. although, I haven’t receive any comment or suggestions on my post. I am hoping in future, people may show interest in my posts.

any one has idea how to post the blog posts on social media?

Hi Vijaya! Oh no, don’t base your confidence and your worth on feedback. What’s important is that you are happy with what you have done. Anyways, I have left a few comments on your posts, see if it helps 🙂 You can create thumbnails for your posts using Canva to promote them on social media. Or just share the link on Facebook groups, it works either way 🙂
